Of the 5 bowlers that Chappell described as the best bowler of today’s era, three players are Indians in that list. These three players are R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami .
Apart from this, Chappell has also included Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada in his list of top 5 Test bowlers. Chappell described his own country’s fast bowler Pat Cummins as the best Test bowler in the world in the current era.
Chappell was also impressed with the performance of Indian pacer Ishant in the last three years, who took 77 wickets in 22 Tests since 2018.

During the program, when Chappell named Ashwin in the top five bowlers of Test cricket, the commentator Sanjay Manjrekar present there disagreed with Chappell.
“When people start talking about him as being one of the all-time greats of the game then I have a few problems. One basic problem I have with Ashwin is that when you look at SENA countries, Ashwin doesn’t have a single five-wicket haul there,” Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo
“And the other thing when you talk about him running through sides on Indian pitches that are suited to his kind of bowling is that in the last four years, Jadeja has matched him with wicket-taking abilities. Then, interestingly, in the last series against England, Axar Patel got more wickets than Ashwin on similar pitches. So that is my problem with accepting Ashwin as a real all-time great,” he added.
Manjrekar said that apart from Ashwin, spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and more recently Axar Patel have also done well on Indian grounds.
Responding to Manjrekar’s argument, Chappell said that West Indies great Joel Garner’s number of wickets was less because he had many other great bowlers in the team.
