The most challenging edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) comes to an end. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has seemingly begun preparations for the next edition of the T20 league.  In fact, in all likelihood, contrary to the popular belief . The report indicated that the BCCI is planning to have the auction in January or mid-February. So that franchisees get time to plan ahead of the 2021 edition that will run in Indian summer.

“The BCCI has told us to be prepared for an auction in a couple of months. Though it is not official, that they have asked us to be ready means they will go ahead as planned. Moreover, with a new team coming in. It makes sense to have an auction now rather than deferring it by a year,” a franchise official said.

The ninth team likely to be add in ipl 2021

According to a BCCI insider, the full auction is being planned since “the BCCI has plans to add a ninth team” to the IPL fold for the 2021 edition. The move, according to the insider, is aimed at striking a financial balance in the aftermath of the pandemic. Ahmedabad IPL franchise next year

“The retention policy should continue even if a new team comes in because at this stage. It won’t be wise to have all players in the auction pool. Teams will have to compromise on brand value which is built on their star players,” said another franchise official.

Adani, Goenka and few others eyeing ownership of 9th IPL team

According to reports doing the rounds. Adani Group owned by Gautam Adani and RPSG owned by Sanjeev Goenka will be the biggest contenders for the 9th IPL team. Adani’s in past have openly declared their interest in owning the IPL team. With Ahmedabad now boasting of the biggest cricket stadium in the country, their interest will grow manifolds.

On the other hand, Goenka had owned IPL team in the past as an owner of Rising Pune Supergiants for two years and will surely throw their hat in the ring when BCCI comes out with tender.

Other than Adani and Goenka – South India’s top actor Mohanlal along with one of the big business house based out of Southern India is reportedly interested in owing the IPL team. He was recently seen in IPL 2020 in UAE hobnobbing with BCCI officials.

According to the sources in BCCI, the board has now informed the teams that the decision. In regard to the new team and Mega-Auctions will be taken by the 2nd week of Dec.

“Time constraints are there but the full auction will be in the interest of everyone. IPL Governing Council will formally decide on this in next 3-4 weeks and communicate to everyone concerned”, said the BCCI source.
