IPL 2021: Rule may change in IPL and UAE out of contention

After the 13th season of IPL is over, the focus is now IPL 2021. The BCCI and the IPL Governing Council are not only considering adding a new team to the league, but may also see some major changes in the mega auction and rules in the 14th edition of the league.

According to the news of InsideSport, some franchises of IPL are in favor of 5 foreign players instead of 4 in the playing eleven. In the last 13 seasons of the IPL, there was a rule to have 4 foreign players in the playing eleven.

A senior BCCI official confirmed that some franchises have informally requested the IPL Governing Council to include 5th foreign players in the playing eleven.

There are some rules which may change in IPL 2021:

Playing format: According to reports, there may be 9–10 teams.  The next season of IPL, before that there have been 8 teams in every season of IPL.



In this case, the format may change and the IPL Governing Council can remove the Robin round from the IPL and instead divide the teams into groups.

Number of foreign players may increase in playing eleven. Under the current rule of IPL, teams cannot feed more than four foreign players in their playing eleven. In order to maintain the quality of the competition.

The franchise wants 5 foreigners in the playing eleven. In such a situation, the IPL management is most likely to increase the number of foreign players to 5 in the playing eleven to maintain the high quality of the competition. With more foreign players coming, this tournament will be more competitive and exciting.
