Indian team’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player in IPL history this year. Lucknow Super Giants has added him to their team for 27 crores. With this, the speculation has also intensified that Pant will be the next captain of Lucknow. KL Rahul has been the captain of this team for the last three seasons, but this time he has moved to Delhi Capitals. Team owner Sanjeev Goenka has put forth his point regarding handing over the captaincy to Pant and said that he had seen Pant’s dramabaazi.
Pant has been continuously playing for the Delhi Capitals since 2017. But this year, Delhi did not retain Him and could not even buy him in the auction. In such a situation, Lucknow added him to their team. Lucknow had bid 20.75 crores for Pant. Then Delhi wanted to use RTM. When Lucknow was asked, they quoted a price of 27 crores for RTM. Delhi did not agree to this, and Lucknow added this batsman to their team.
Lucknow does not have a captain. This post is vacant after Rahul’s departure. Pant has also captained Delhi. In such a situation, he is expected to become the captain. Regarding Pant becoming the captain, Sanjeev Goenka has said that he had seen Pant’s dramabaazi for the team’s interest in the T20 World Cup.
Goenka, while talking on the YouTube channel of former India opener Aakash Chopra, said, “I have seen the video in which he is doing dramabaazi on the field and he slowed down the match. I really liked the idea that you have an extra plan to change the atmosphere. Since then I have been thinking that I wish Pant was in my team.” He said, “One thing that appeals a lot is that Pant has come back from a very dangerous injury. He has returned to a form that is better than before. That’s why he has the ability to fight and get back up. We have bought Pant for 27 crores. Hopefully he will be with us for the next 10-12 years.”
🗣️ Mr. Sanjiv Goenka (on Marcus Stoinis): “Yes, he was in our plans (to execute RTM). We definitely wanted him with us, but we are disappointed that he isn’t with us..”. #IPL2025 #LSG
