The left-handed batsman announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 this year along with former World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dainik Jagran had already told that Raina has retired from international cricket but he will continue to play domestic cricket. Raina will arrive in Kanpur on Saturday and attend the Uttar Pradesh camp there. Along with this, he will play practice matches there on 13 and 15 December.

Raina told Dainik Jagran that this year Syed Mushtaq Ali will represent Uttar Pradesh in the T20 Trophy. He said that I want to give Uttar Pradesh another title and will work hard for it. After this, my focus will be on IPL to be held next year.

Raina played his last first-class match against Jharkhand in Lucknow on 14–17 December. He played his last IPL match against Mumbai Indians on 12 May 2019. It was a final match. He is also currently opening six cricket academies in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, he has also taken trials of children going to Kashmir. According to sources, he will play only the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy this season. At the moment, he does not intend to play in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
